Voted the best Chinese Enrichment Centre 7 years in a row, and recognised with the Industry Star for Tuition & Enrichment, EduGrove have helped thousands of children take their first steps in learning Mandarin.

PlayGrove toddler sessions immerse children in an all-Mandarin environment. We use songs, stories, and lively speech that train their ears to Mandarin sounds and intonation, setting a foundation for a natural understanding of the language.

All Mandarin playgroup sessions at our centres across Singapore are led by experienced early childhood educators fluent in the language. We invite parents to accompany their little ones into classes so the whole family can experience the fun!

What Makes Our Chinese Playgroup Different?

All Mandarin Environment

Research into childhood development shows that the best time to learn any language is from birth to six years old.

In our Chinese playgroup, every part of the session is in Mandarin – we do not use bilingual or code-switching approaches. As toddlers sing along to nursery rhymes or listen to stories, they feel the rhythms and intonation of their mother tongue and absorb the language naturally. Many parents are surprised when their child’s first words are 妈妈!

General Development

Language skills are a big part of early childhood development – but watching your child learn to recognise objects, understand speech, and move around independently are equally important milestones.

Led by early childhood educators, our PlayGrove sessions map every activity to specific developmental milestones. Every single activity of the class nurtures fine and gross motor skills, pattern recognition, and sensory processing.

Preparation for Preschool

Chinese playgroup will set the stage for independent learning, preparing toddlers for preschool education. Learning to interact with peers is an important step in that process.

Our playgroup teachers use a progressive independence model to encourage self-sufficiency through simple tasks and routines. Our goal is to prepare children for drop-off, minimising separation anxiety for both parent and child when it is time to enter preschool.

EduGrove Playgroup Activities

EduGrove’s enrichment classes for toddlers offer a variety of activities to make learning Mandarin both engaging and fun.

Free Play

Free play sessions are designed to let toddlers learn at their own pace. Different activity stations are set up in the room, each designed to promote a different aspect of early learning (e.g. motor skills, pattern differentiation). At each station, an educator works one-to-one with each child - providing just enough guidance for self-discovery without taking over learning.

Rhythm & Rhyme

Music and rhyme are easy mediums for toddlers to participate in language learning. At EduGrove, we use Mandarin songs and rhymes produced by local composer Ang Zhi Hui to help toddlers learn simple words like animal names and everyday phrases like “谢谢!”. Musical sing-along activities are one of our most popular activities among toddlers in our playgroup - parents tell us that their little ones still sing the songs at home.

Magic Box

The magic box is an activity that leverages mystery and surprise to capture the attention of toddlers and deepen their interest in learning.  Following a new theme each week, the magic box activity is designed to engage every child’s five senses, combined with learning the Mandarin word for the mystery item.

Storytelling & Drama

Storytelling and drama are the cornerstone of our Mandarin playgroup - every story is told in Mandarin through interactive skits performed by our teachers.  Interactive storytelling and teacher-led drama skits immerse toddlers in the sounds, rhythm, and intonation of Mandarin in natural and enjoyable ways. Teachers reinforce new words and themes through repetition and contextual learning, which helps with memory and retention. Stories also cover important moral teachings, enriching children’s learning experiences with essential life values.

Sensory Play

Studies show that toddlers learn through their senses, sight, hearing, smell and touch. Our playgroup combines sensory play items like paper, fabrics, and other child-safe items with Mandarin learning.  New colours and textures allow toddlers to form experiential associations with new Mandarin phrases.

Outdoor Lessons

Our playgroup activities include outdoor lessons at local parks and playgrounds, bringing Mandarin to life through nature and play. Open spaces provide a whole new environment for learning - whether it's interacting with nature or playing with other toddlers. Our teachers supervise outdoor lessons closely to ensure the safety of each toddler.

Our Original Songs for Playgroup & Nursery

Working in collaboration with a local composer and songwriter, Ang Zhi Hui, we’ve meticulously written and crafted nearly a hundred songs tailored for our playgroup and nursery programmes. These songs are organised into thematic albums covering topics like Occupation, Transportation, and Nature. Each album centres on a specific theme, and every term, we explore a new theme, introducing one subject from the album weekly in our classes. You can discover our music on platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music!
